Web Application

Here we are here again for my IT Blog, but i hope this will be the last time that you will hear from me because this will be my last update since we have started our IT class. In this post I am going to introduce you about "Web application" and before moving on, i would like to define what is web application then talk about web page and give a brief definition of it, then finish with the generation of computer by starting from the first implementation to the last  and later on we will have a good understanding of the topic.
  1. Definition: Web application refer to any application that is accessed by users over a network such as the internet or an intranet .The term may also mean a computer software application which allow users to retrieve data and interact with content located on web pages within a website. In one word we can define the term web application as an application which use a combination of "Script" and "Server".
  2. Web page: A web page is web document that is suitable for the world wide web and can be accessed through a web browser and displayed on a monitor. This information is usually in HTML ( Hyper Text Markup language), and may provide navigation to other web pages. Web page may also consist of file of static text which allow users to search for information and read content of this information and one of the example of static web is web 1.0, or dynamic web pages which allow users to give support or interact with the software  and the example of it is web 2.0 and 3.0.
  3. Generation of Web: The first implementation of he web represents the web 1.0 which is considered to be able to read only web in other word the  early web allowed us to search for information and read it. Followed by the second generation which is web 2.0, and here users are able to interact with one another or contribute content. And the third generation is the web 3.0, it's about semantic web and is based on intelligent web applications means that programing application.
Here is one of the example of web site which have been done in class activity in order to help us to understand more about web application if you want to know more about what we have done just visit our web site.

Internet

How can we define Internet? Internet can be define as the largest network in the world which connects people or organization all over the world. and it is also a global system which is interconnected with networks that uses the standard internet protocol to serve billion of user. and we use it in order to find

  • General information
  •  Sending or receiving files between computer
  •  Share resources
  • Correspond or meet with people
  • Shop for product and services
It was exactly in 1969 people started using it. but under the name of ARPANET and the name has changed since 1980 till now and they name it as INTERNET. Also Internet provide us certain services such as communication (electronic mail), World Wide Web, Chat Room etc.....
Internet provide some features which helps people to send an electronic message/mail from one computer to another Email is used to create, send, receive, forward, store, print and delete email. And some of the example of Email are:

  • Yahoo
  • Gmail
  • MSN
  • Hotmail
Internet Service uses also Web, and Web is created by Tim Berners Lee and it contains hypertext links and when web pages are linked and has common theme or focus we call them as Web site.

Web content also what we call Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) which display web pages and other information that can be displayed in a web browser and it allow web browser software to read them, the text should be formatted according to a standard.
When we need to access to the Web first we need to have; Internet connection,, Internet service provide which is a commercial organization that sells temporary connection to subscribers such as CELCOM, Maxis and many more. Then we need to have a special software called browser to access the Web which is also a software program that is used to view web page as an example of  Chrome, Firefox, Opera etc. Web is structured because the have what we call Web servers and  every web server has an IP address and possibly a domain name, followed by the Web client.

Internet service use the Transfer Protocol which is the set f rules/software that the computer use to files from one computer to another on the internet. and the most common transfer protocol used on the internet is the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP).
It can also use Chat Room. From this we can understand from the word chat  a type of conversation which allows  people to communicate by using a channel/medium such as Real chat, Yahoo Message. Overall there are so many future that Internet can perform in order to keep people in touch and helps them to transfer documents and so on..

Database Management

Before moving on and getting into the heart of the matter let's try to define Database Management.
First of all Database Management can be define as a collection of interrelated data stored together with a controlled redundancy to serve one or more applications in an optional way. this is a single definition of what we call database management and it contents some features and some components which are; Data item, Relationships, Constraints, Schema.
Database management systems complete some these tasks which are to define, create and organise a database, the input of entering data then it processes these data and also it helps to maintain data integrity and security and finally it query database such as providing information to the decision makers that need to make an important decision.
Examples of Database management systems

  • Microsoft Access
  • Oracle
  • IBM DB2
  • MySQL
When DBMS software is combine with the Database their outcomes is called "database system" and it is also an organization of components which define, store and manage the data in database. The main function of Database system is to record and maintain information.
The advantages of using Database systems is; we can control the redundancy, data consistency, sharing of data, improve data integrity, improve security and data access is efficient.
Database consist also some these terms which depend on their; Field, Record, Key field, Table, Relational database and object .

In class we did one activity about APA style as an sample that i took from this activity

Information System

Information System:
       Definition:
An information system is a form of communication system in which data represent and are processed as a form of social memory, it can be a system which is considered as a semi formal language which support human decision making and action. So far we can say it is any combination of information technology and people's activities that support operations management and decision making. In a very broad sense, the term information system is frequently used to refer to the interaction between people, processes, data and technology.
Where and who  use information system?
Information system is use in business. It served them to collect, process and store data. And the data is in the form of information needed to carry daily operation of business. It is used by people and everyone who works in a business company, from someone who pays bills or who makes employment decisions.
Information system can be divide into five sub-branch:
  1. Transaction Processing System (TPS)
  2. Decision Support System (DSS)
  3. Expert Support System (ESS)
  4. Management Information System (MIS)

IT and ICT

Information Technology ( IT):
It is an application of computers and telecommunications equipment to store, retrieve, transit and manipulate data, often in the context of a business or other enterprise. The term is commonly used as a synonym for computers and computer networks, but it also encompasses other information distribution technologies such as television and telephone.
Information Technology architecture: It is a map or plan which is designed for the information asset in an organization.
Information technology Infrastructure: It include computer hardware, software also the personnel who works or uses IT or IS and the third facilities is the services provided for people or customer.  ,
Information Communication Technology (ICT):
It is often use as an extended synonym for information technology (IT), But it is a more specific term that stresses the role of unified communication and the integration of telecommunication such as telephone lines and wireless signals computer as well as. And it enable user to access, store , transmit, and manipulate all kind of information. ICT is also used to refer to the convergence of audio-visual and telephone networks with computer networks through a single cabling or link system.
Apparently we use ICT in our daily life through science, healthcare, education, banking, business, government and so on. The introduction of some components for their uses in many sector has shown their importance by helping to improve or replace some old method or way of doing things for example in the domain of eduction, teaching with the white or black boards has been  replaced to the  Projector or Smart boards. Another things is, ICT is used in Banking system and it help people to control their account by using online or electronic fund transfer, exchange electronic data and so on.

Data, Information and Information Management

There have several tentative of given an definition and make a difference between what we call Data, Information and Information management. Before taking a big step in deep of the topic i would like highlight this during the time i will have to spend my time on writing this short Blog, i would like also to thanks my lecturer in Information Technology Ms. Nur Khairunnisha Zaina for given me this opportunity to write this blog. Just now to move on we are going to start with the simple things to the complex one, it means that I am going to introduce you about what is Data, Information and Information Management in order  to get familiar by defining it first.
  •  Data:
  • Is a facts  in raw of information stored by a computer and this information may be in a form of a text documents, image audio clips, software programs or other types of data and it is an input processing.
          2.  Information:
    • Information is when a data is organized and when this data make a sense and  it is used while we are making an decision it is also an output processing
           Process Data into Information:
The process of data into information consist of three (3) basics steps which is very important.
Step 1: According to the process Data is all about the Input; so, the data is being typed into the computer it can be images and this data will be stored on the hard disc of the computer.
Step 2: The computer will convert, organize  and also will extract the data from the hard disk .
Step 3: The Output which represent the information will be created and printed.
Input and Output data: It is any data and instruction which encompassing terms for any task that requires information to be entered into a computer in a variety of forms and will be processed at the output into a useful form.
    Information Management:
It is the collection and the way of how we menage all kind of information that we receive. Information management include web content management, document management, records management an so on. Information management include some problems of managing the information.
To illustrate what we have learn so far,my group and I have made a presentation  about "Problems of Information Management". During our group presentation i was supposed to present about the poor quality of information and out of date information and i had to come out with some solution of the problems related to it.

    • In practice most of the information management systems need the active participation of the staff throughout the organization.
    • The quality of the information depends on the accuracy and is usually a function of accurate data collection.
    • Information need to be upgraded from time to time because information may change overtime
